One of Those Ugly Days

Why are the ugly days so often on nights that I feed missionaries?  I'm reminded of the ONE time we've had to have our pipes roto-rooted out WHILE the FOUR (we once had 4 missionaries in our ward) were fed by me, on paper plates with me washing my hands in the bathroom.

Anyway, today was one of those days.  We got some ugly family news.  Nothing I want to go into here.  It's not huge, but sad news nevertheless.

Then I remembered we're feeding the missionaries.  I pull out the good ol' pressure cooker... but the lid's fitting on weird... but it still fits.... until about 15 minutes in where it suddenly starts spewing steam out its edges.

Not a clue what happened, but I just started dinner with brown rice planning on pressure cooking it.  But I couldn't because our pressure cooker wouldn't work.  So, I throw it in a pot and boil the heck out of it.  And pray.  I mean, I'm feeding the Lord's servants, right?

So while that is boiling away I call Overstock.com -- because, luckily I bought a warranty on the little appliance.  Turns out they'll contact me in 1-2 business days after they review my case.  WHAT THE HECK, I PAID FOR A WARRANTY, plus it's still in the 90 day return guidelines.

CAN ANYTHING BE FIXED TODAY?

Quick answer, no.

So, I wash the pressure cooker and put it away and SLAM my fingers into the cabinet when I put it away.  And then came the tears.  Just one of those days.

But, the missionaries prayed hard for our rice and it wasn't exactly crunch, al dente for the culinarian inside of me.  Dinner is done, oh and did I mention it burned to the pot, probably thanks to the 20 pounds of steam the pressure cooker ladled on our kitchen.  Either way, they're fed and it's over...

I guess that's kind of how life works.  It all turns out in the end, right?  It will.

Just one of those days....

I'm bracing myself for tomorrow. My list of to do's is huge, and of course, we too are feeding the Elder's. Already I know my husband can't make it, so I'm trying to figure out whether to invite a neighbor to join us, take the Elder's their dinner, or just give a gift card. It's ALWAYS more stressful for me when they come. I think Satan knows all about those pressure cooker tops.

That sounds like less that fun! I've never made rice in a pressure cooker, is it easier than boiling it?
